The 'Trash Them' Movement
I named this the "Trash Them" Movement because I chose to pick song lyrics that purposefully trashed other famous people of our time period. There seems to be a lot from music now-a-days, there is even a song by Nicki Minaj named Shitted on 'em. Hence the picture.
And this is where we start- Nicki Minaj's song Shitted on 'Em here are some lyrics I found in the song:
"If you could turn back time, Cher
You used to be here, now your gone, Nair."
Hopefully this made you laugh, two referances you wouldn't understand if you were not from our 'time period' Cher- A famous American recording artist, actrist, and director most famous during the 60's and 90's. Nair- A recently developed hair removal product. So the lyrics put together with referances in mind: Cher used to be famous, but now she's gone from that scene.
Song number two- Pitbulll's song Give me Everything Tonight here are some lyrics:
"Keep flowin', hustlers move beside us,
So I'm tip-toeing to keep blowing,
I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan"
And later in the song:
"My family is from Cuba, but I'm an American Idol,
Gettin' money like Seacrest"
A couple of referances people wouldn't understand if they weren't from our time period. Lindsay Lohan- pop singer and American actress, but everyone now-a-days know her for being in and out of jail, hence the "locked up like Lindsay Lohan." Second referance: Ryan Seacrest- most well known for TV hosting, especially for the show American Idol. Pitbull says his family is from Cuba but he is an 'American Idol' saying that even though he is not American he is an idol in America... a play on words because American Idol is hosted by Ryan Seacrest. "Gettin' money like Seacrest."
In fact the last example is not a song in particular it is an artist. This artist has spent his entire career making parodys of famous songs. Weird Al Yankovic. He has made parodys of famous songs like Beat it by Michael Jackson renamed- Eat it. Girls just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper renamed- Girls Just Want to Have Lunch. I Love Rock N' Roll by Joan Jett renamed- I Love Rocky Road. Point being- without knowing the originial song these parodys would be pointless, and is why his career can only last as long as he makes parodys that people of the time would understand.
Reiterating the "Trash Movement" artists love to 'shit on' other famous people and use referances that would only make sense if you can understand. But no ones complaining... except Lindsay Lohan I suppose.
